Writer, photographer, sustainability reporting consultant

In Indonesian, ‘gang’ means narrow lane. This travel blog keeps to the unpaved side streets, recording quirky details and images of ordinary people along the way.

Welcome

Based in Southeast Asia, Melanie is an independent writer, photographer, and sustainability reporting consultant.

She has had over 70 magazine articles and 130 photographs published, her blog Gangs of Indonesia has been featured in two newspapers, and this June she will have her first magazine front cover shot published. Melanie has photographed a guidebook on Jakarta, to be published by Periplus (Tuttle) this summer.

As a sustainability reporting consultant, Melanie has worked with the coal, cement, palm oil, pulp and paper, and energy sectors, and is a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) trainer with the National Centre for Sustainability Reporting, Indonesia.

A love for the look, sound, and meaning of words underlies her work, and she has an extreme eye for detail.
